September 11, 2001

This is the radio broadcast I did on WDOA in the days just after September 11, 2001.
No air breaks, just music. Not a single Lee Greenwood song to be found, however you will find Marvin Gaye, Iggy and the Stooges, Lou Reed, Ramones, Patti Smith, Bob Marley, Bob Dylan, and others.

WBCN RIP

Where's your guts
And will to survive
And don't you wanna
Keep rock n' roll music alive
Mr. Programmer
I got my hammer
and I'm gonna
Smash my
Smash my
Radio

It was announced today that Boston's fabled radio station WBCN is having it's plug pulled. Although I have not listened to the station for many years and felt that they started to slip sometime in 1980s culminating with becoming utterly unlistenable in recent years I still feel a bit sad about the announcement. I guess I held out some sort of unrealistic hope that the station would cast off it's corporate, focus group driven programming and somehow provide decent music once again. Unfortunately commercial radio and to some extent so called "public radio" are both victims of "milk toast syndrome" of boring predictable programming.
Anyhow I have one glimmering bit of the goodness from WBCN's past, and surprisingly it's not from the 80s. It's one 5 hour chunk of programming from July of 1997 when Joey Ramone guest hosted "Nocturnal Emissions". The Ramones had done their last show less than one year before. Joey had already been diagnosed with Lymphoma which would take his life less than 4 years later. It's a beautiful 5 hour stretch of programming with Joey clearly picking his own music (with some help). It's not slick or "professional" but it certainly is "rock and roll" in the best sense.
I'll only have this up for a limited time (or less if I my web host bitches), but here in 5 parts is most of that evening's programming with Joey Ramone. Enjoy...

Summer, Sunshine – 1,2,3,4 Bath!La, la, it´s that time of the year again – parties, cocktails, music – and a bath.
Please enjoy the aforementioned ones responsibly – remember that you listen to this show at your own risk!
You might feel better while doing so, side effects also include humming, singing, dancing and other things that you can´t sue me for.
;)
Donations of many kinds (legal tenders, beverages, comments, suggestions) are welcome

Radio Speakeasy, hard to believe but another one is posted

Spent Memorial Day Afternoon drinking Beck's dunkel and putting together about 120 minutes of action packed rock and roll for you. For your perusal we have New York Dolls, Belmondos, Numbskulls, Time Beings, and even a German version of The Last Time that threatens at points to turn into a polka. Enjoy.

First Show of 2009 Yippee (or not)

Okay campers, here it is the first RadioSpeakeasy of 2009. I may take a break for a bit after doing this show. It may be a month or it may be a year, not really sure. Seem to have lost the spark for doing this, anyhow here is a tribute to mediocrity.
